Korean Crackdown on Internet Gambling
The Korean government has announced moves to crackdown on illegal online gambling.
The crackdown will center on internet cafes that offers online betting services.
In the present, internet cafes are not required to license or register prior the opening of the internet cafe, locally known as PC Bang.
However, the government and the Uri Party has drafted the new policy that will require all cafe operators to remove betting programs from their computers.
Internet cafes that are found violating the law will face business closure.
The move to revise the law will be presented by Uri party in the National Assembly on September.
According to the authorities, internet cafes are using illegal online gambling to attract customers back to their computer cafes.
The Office of the Prime Minister has announced that the nationwide crackdown on internet cafes that offer online betting will last until October.
In the province of Songnam, Kyonggi, the police have discovered one PC Bang that disguised itself as a medical clinic.
The authorities seized thirty two computers that were connected to the gambling server and more than one million won that was used in gambling.
The ten employees, as well as the customers, were brought to the police station.
